SYSCID, a good example for personalised medicine

SYSCID partners Gordan Lauc from Genos and Gioacchino Natoli from Humanitas University presented SYSCID as a good example at two international events

Since the European Union has identified Research and Innovation as an important feature of its regional policy, synergies between Horizon 2020 and the European Structural and Investment Funds are promoted. In the scope of its initiatives in personalised medicine, the Directorate General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) has thus initiated an event bringing together researchers from different regions with representatives of various Commission services and Member states from May 4th-5th, 2017 in Brussels to pool their efforts and design new regional approaches to personalised medicine.

The objective of the workshop was to facilitate dialogue and cooperation and explore regional involvement with ICPerMed, the International Consortium on Personalised Medicine consisting of research funding organisations from over 25 countries. Furthermore, the workshop created a platform, where the participants could share their experience and identify potential good practices. In this regard, project partner Gordan Lauc from Genos, who participated in the workshop as a vice-president of the Croatian National Cluster of Competences in Personalised Medicine, presented SYSCID and its objective to develop a systems medicine approach for predictions in chronic inflammatory diseases (CID) as a model initiative to foster personalised medicine.

Next to the European Commission’s workshop, SYSCID was also presented by Gioacchino Natoli from Humanitas University at the annual conference of the International Organization For the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IOIBD) which was held from April 20th-23rd, 2017 in Stresa – Lago Maggiore (Italy). The IOIBD has the goal to promote the health of people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease worldwide by setting the direction for patient care, education and research.
